Taking up Space has encouraged feminist identifying artists to select and reference a work from the Australian Feminist archive or their country of origin. For this project I will be referencing the work of the late Irish-Australian artist, Rose Ann McGreevy (1945-2014). I will be making a work that is informed by her last floor work, 'Interrupting the spatial plane' (2014).

Moving studios

22/02/2015: The adjustments to the new studio are taking more time than expected, mostly due to Sydney's impossible February heat. The adjustments are now at 70%. I'm fortunate that I have been able to recycle 100% of the building materials from my previous studio build.

Recent highlights:
1. Gary Warner's solo show at Articulate Project Space is a must see. The exhibition includes Warner's amazing drawing machine which is part Gyroscope and part kinetic sculpture. The Articulate Project Sapce blog includes video documentation and images of some of the works generated by the drawing machine: http://articulate497.blogspot.com.au/

The drawings that Warner's drawing machine produces reminded me strongly of Stan Ostoja Kotkowski's early laser installations in Adelaide. I'm luckier than most in that I had an 'art' mum. If a train or a bus could get us there, my Mother, Brother and i would regularly trek across town in the 70s to see events such as Ostoja Kotkowski's laser projects, or head to Adelaide Uni to see a Polish film in the days before SBS TV started broadcasting.

Make haste: Gary Warner ends 1st March.

2. 55 Sydneham Road opened on Friday night. It's a super first show for the year from the 55 Sydneham Road group.
Participating artists include: Luke Parker, Carla Cescon, Anna John, Paul Greedy, Elise Harmsen, Consuelo Cavaniglia, Iakov Amperidis, Sach Catts & Nick Strike.

02/02/2015: This photograph documents a small section and obscure angle of the giant hinged 4th wall that Damon Hannon designed and built for me. The combined surface area of both sides of this structure instantly gave me an extra 6+ metres of 3m tall drawing walls. The wall was in situ for 2.5 years. This wall has now been deconstructed and moved into temporary storage. It will be reinstated in the new studio as soon as it is practicable to do so. It is the most inspiring and functional thing that I own. I have now completely moved out of my old studio and into my new studio.

I am extremely keen to sort out the new space asap so that I can start working on a new short-lead project, three ongoing drawing projects and other selected projects that will see me 'heads down' until the end of the year.

News:
1. It was an absolute thrill to see Rose Nolan, Peter Cripps and Gail Hasting's work in the MCA's Taking it all away: MCA Collection exhibition the other day. It was especially energising to see Nolan's playful work, It's not good to worry about space (2008).

2. The final chapter of Feral opens at Articulate Project Space this Friday night at 6pm.
This project has seen some excellent responses to the laboratory rationale that drives this project.
Last chapter artists include: Lisa Andrew, Dominic Byrne, Maryanne Coutts, Richard Dunn, Sarah Fitzgerald, Juliet Fowler Smith,  Jane Gavan, Pollyxenia Joannou, Fiona Kemp, Delilah Lysses-sApo, Kate Mackay, Diane McCarthy, Alycia Moffat, Louise Morgan, James Needham Walker, Melissa Jane Palmer, Elizabeth Rankin,  Kathryn Ryan, Alexandra Sideris, Phaptawan Suwannakudt, Yoshi Takahashi, Vicky Versa and Joe Wilson.
